Alberta’s Home Energy Plan – How to Save Money on Your Home Upgrades
Homes by Tricolor is proud to be a participating contractor in Alberta’s Home Energy Plan. This incredible provincial initiative is giving homeowners incentives to use energy efficient upgrades, technology, and building practices in their homes. Everyone benefits from the sustainability and cost savings offered under this program – homeowners, contractors, the community, the environment, and the province. We’re happy to help clients save money on their renovations and become more energy efficient in the process.
What is the Alberta Home Energy Plan?
The Home Energy Plan is designed to help homeowners save money while designing and creating energy efficient homes. Not only do homeowners get rebates and monetary incentives; they also receive guidance and recommendations from experts so they know they’re getting the most benefit and energy savings.
According to the 2016 Census, there are over 1.5 million homes in Alberta. The program is geared toward helping cut down on energy usage in these homes. With this many homes in the province, every house counts.
How Does the Home Energy Plan Work?
Two Ways to Benefit
There are two ways homeowners benefit from Alberta Home Energy Plan:
- From the rebates and instant savings offered by the province (and by some Alberta cities – see below!)
- From the monthly energy savings they’ll see as a result
How Does it Work?
A participating Energy Advisor will visit your home and provide you with recommendations for upgrades and renovations to your home (known as an EnerGuide Home Energy Evaluation). You get a $300 rebate for this initial assessment. You’ll likely get recommendations about features of your home that might need custom upgrades, such as your heating and cooling systems, your insulation, your hot water heating, and your appliances.
After this, you can choose a contractor to work with to complete the recommended renovations. As a registered contractor under the program, Homes by Tricolor will be able to deal with all the paperwork on your behalf, which means a lot less hassle for you. We’ll apply for your rebate for you. Plus, you can skip the usual post-renovation evaluation because we’re an approved contractor with the Home Energy Plan.
What Do You Receive Rebates For?
Your initial energy assessment will break down all the potential rebates you’re eligible for. Different rebates are available for different upgrades, from windows and insulation to boilers and furnace systems (and much more!) In fact, there’s a $500 minimum when you upgrade your furnace or boiler.
You can also get a $1000 bonus rebate right now when you have three or more renovations completed.
Additional Incentives in Edmonton
Homes by Tricolor is excited about all the changes we’ve completed under the Home Energy Plan so far. But we’re even more excited that the City of Edmonton has stepped up to offer local homeowners even more reasons to upgrade their homes. They have additional rebates for the Home Energy Evaluation and eligible upgrades.
